2023 Primary: Consequences Will Be Grave – PDP Kicks As INEC Extends Deadline

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has kicked against the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to extend the deadline for party primaries by six days.

According to the main opposition spokesman, Debo Ologungba, the electoral umpire has changed the goalpost in the middle of the game.

The party stressed that the certainty of elections is the bedrock of democracy.

The PDP mouthpiece said this at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, where all is set for the party’s presidential primary scheduled to hold on Saturday(today)

“The consequences will be grave for the country. And of course, we have to look at that,” he said immediately after INEC made its decision public.

“The bedrock of democracy is the certainty of elections and the fact that the rules are clear to every participant and you cannot shift the goalpost in the middle of the game.”

INEC on Friday extended the deadline for political parties to conduct primaries after meeting with the leadership of the 18 registered political parties.

It said the Inter-Party Advisory Commission (IPAC) had asked for a week extension for political parties to conclude the conduct of their presidential conventions and primaries.

IPAC chairman, Engr Yabagi Yusuf Sani, urged INEC to adjust its June 3rd timeline for the conduct of primaries.
