Easter Message: Kukah Failed To Speak Like A Man Of God – Presidency

Kukah criticized Buhari for overindulging terrorists instead of prosecuting them.

The Presidency has slammed Bishop Matthew Kukah for criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari over his approach to insurgency in the country.

Speaking on Easter Sunday, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Kukah criticized Buhari for overindulging terrorists instead of prosecuting them, adding that his approach to bandits has continued to fuel insurgency as the criminals are assured of going scot-free.

However, a statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu described the cleric’s homily as inexplicable and unbecoming of a man of God.

The media aide faulted the prominent cleric for saying terrorism has become worse during Buhari’s regime than it was in 2015.

Consequently, Shehu urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government in eradicating terrorism and banditry.

Part of the statement read, “Father Kukah has said some things that are inexplicable in his Easter message.

“But, in saying that the Boko Haram terrorism is worse than it was in 2015, he did not speak like a man of God.

“Kukah should go to Borno or Adamawa to ask the citizens there the difference between 2014 and 2021.”

Speaking further, Shehu accused Kukah of playing politics with security issues under the guise of being a respect cleric.

He added, “Some of the comments are no more than a sample of the unrestrained rhetoric Fr. Kukah trades in, which he often does in the guise of a homily.”
