Gary Neville Reveals Match That ‘Cost’ Arsenal Champions League Spot

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has claimed that Arsenal shot themselves in the foot by asking for their North London Derby to be rearranged.

The Gunners’ clash at Tottenham Hotspur was due to be played January 16.

But Arsenal asked the Premier League to postpone the game citing positive COVID-19 cases within the squad, injuries and players away at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The game was eventually played last Thursday, with Mikel Arteta’s losing 3-0, before they were defeated 2-0 at Newcastle on Monday.

The two results have seen Arsenal lose control of the race to qualify for the Champions League.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Neville wrote: “Cancelling that NLD game has cost Arsenal.

“They had not recovered at all from Thursday and had this loss been earlier in the season they would have been clear of it.”
