Lagos-Badagry Expressway: Fashola Assures Lagosians Of Completion

He guaranteed the completion when he inspected some roads in Lagos State on Saturday.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola has given assurances that the Federal Government would complete the rehabilitation of Lagos-Badagry Expressway as it has been added to the 2021 Sukuk funding priority list.

He guaranteed the completion when he inspected some roads in Lagos State on Saturday.

Addressing the delays in some reconstruction works, the minister disclosed that the FG has started constructing drainages and revamping highways from their old status, adding that funding challenges are being resolved.

Fashola said, “Lagos-Badagry Expressway is the real challenge. Again it is funding.

“We are owing the contractor. That is why I said if we can expand the Sukuk this year, we are going to look at a few more roads to add into it.

“If we succeed Lagos-Badagry Expressway is one of the top roads we are penciling down for the Sukuk in 2021.”

Similarly, he addressed the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway construction, saying the contractor has completed about 85km out of 127km project being funded by Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund.

Recall that the Lagos State Government declared its intention to rehabilitate the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on March 29.

According to the Commissioner of Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, the state government would repair the failed portions in the area including Maza-Maza, Signal Barracks and Mile 2.

A statement released by the Commissioner disclosed that the repair work would last for eight weeks, starting from Monday, March 29, 2021 to May 31.
