Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, has finally decided not to sell midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer amid interest from Manchester United and other top European clubs.
Laporta said he wants De Jong to continue at Barcelona despite receiving proposals from other clubs for the player’s signature.
Recall that De Jong has been heavily linked with a move to Man United since the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils’ manager.
De Jong, who has played under Ten Hag in the past, joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019.
When asked if De Jong was among the players who had proposals and could be sold, Laporta told L’Esportiu:
“I am talking about Barça’s first-team players and there are many who are of great quality.
“Frenkie has great quality; he knows our system and, yes, he is a coveted player in the market and we have received proposals, but we think he should continue at Barça.”
